Thesis Title: Scotland and Northumbria before 1124
About
I'm researching Northumbria and its neighbours in the 10th and 11th centuries, particularly its political and social history in relation to the Gall-Gaidhil, the northern Britons and the kingdom of Alba; more particularly still the question of when and how the Lothian and Berwickshire regions came into the kingdom of Alba.
My preoccupations are with Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages before c. 1300, at the moment chiefly in regard to Ireland, Scotland and England. I also have an interest in normative culture, and its relationship with the primary historical developments of the early and high middle ages, the creations and destructions of political and social order, and the forces which underlie the use of myth.
